The traditional regional scientific conference “Pure Nature without Nuclear Weapons” dedicated to the day of creation of the international anti-nuclear movement “Nevada-Semey” was held at the university of Zhubanov.
The event brought together scientists, coordinators of the Nevada-Family movement from different regions of the country: historians, university teachers, public figures. The conference’s round table discussed the consequences of nuclear tests in Kazakhstan and environmental issues.
The meeting highlighted the results of the work and plans of the branch of the Western region of the anti-nuclear movement for 2020, touched upon the environmental situation in the oil and gas-producing regions of Atyrau and, in general, the impact of nuclear tests on the environment, raised the problems of veterans of the SNRC, official benefits for disabled former servicemen, etc.
It should be reminded that INW “Nevada-Semey”, organized by Olzhas Suleimenov on February 28, 1989, actively opposed nuclear explosions at the Semipalatinsk test site and found support from the people of Kazakhstan. As a result, 29 August 1991, by presidential decree, the range was closed, and later that day was declared the International Day against Nuclear Tests. Nevada-Semey INW branches are active in all regions of Kazakhstan, as well as in Italy, Japan, Turkey and other countries.
